DONOR DOLLARS AT WORK: Carly Craig, Health and Sports Science
By Jana Garvie Lindley
Scholarship dollars allow Northwestern junior Carly Craig, Blanchard, Okla., the opportunities to graduate debt-free and to concentrate on her academic and athletic goals.
Craig chose the combination of Health and Sports Science as a major and Biology as a minor to fit her aspirations. Sports medicine is her career goal. Becoming a certified physician assistant for an orthopedic doctor and making a lasting impact on as many people as possible are in her sights.
Northwestern women’s basketball keeps Craig busy; she is the point guard for the Lady Rangers. Her love and passion for sports were inspired by her father, a football coach and athletic director.
Recognized on the Vice-President’s Honor Roll, Craig likes to cook, exercise, watch sports and spend time with friends, family and her dog.
“My experience at Northwestern has been unforgettable. I am grateful for the opportunity to extend my academic and athletic careers at an affordable university. I have made many new friendships and memories that will last a lifetime, and I am proud to call Northwestern my home away from home.”
Craig received the LaVonn Meier-McKnight Scholarship.
Lavonn McKnight was a long-time educator serving Alva Public Schools, Garber Public Schools, and Chisholm Public Schools. Before her retirement in 1991, McKnight served as the principal at Chisholm Elementary until 1981 and then as principal of the combined Chisholm Elementary and Chisholm Junior High Schools. This scholarship was established by the McKnight family in 2017.
