Alva, Oklahoma – Dr. Peggy Wisdom established the Wisdom Family Foundation Scholarship in Nursing to support education; however, this scholarship also supports community healthcare in Oklahoma. Dr. Wisdom chose to support the nursing program to increase the number of graduates in the nursing field, which aids in supporting the healthcare of the Oklahoma community workforce.
Founded in 2007, the Wisdom Family Foundation was built on the belief that empowering youth transforms families, communities and the world. Akin to her parents, Peggy J. Wisdom, M.D. continues to encompass a spirit of generosity within our communities and motivates others to extend a giving heart. C.W. Wisdom passed in September 1993 and Grace Wisdom passed in 2008. The Wisdoms had two daughters who passed: Dianna Sue and Cynthia Kay. Upon the death of Grace Wisdom, Dr. Wisdom was selected as Chairman of the Board of Alva State Bank and First National Bank of Okeene and continuing her parents' business legacy.
The Wisdom family and the Wisdom Family Foundation have demonstrated their belief in the future of Northwestern Oklahoma State University. This scholarship will make a positive difference in the lives of many students.
“Dr. Wisdom and the Wisdom Family Foundation have proven their support for our nursing program time and time again,” said Dr. Bo Hannaford, Northwestern president. “They understand the importance of how critical this workforce need is, not only for Oklahoma but rural Oklahoma. Northwestern cannot thank Dr. Wisdom and the Wisdom Family Foundation enough for their wonderful gift.”
Applicants must be accepted into the Northwestern nursing program, have a GPA of 3.0 or greater, be full-time students pursuing a major in nursing and be involved in community outreach activities as a freshman.
